How to apply for the Voter ID card in Tamil Nadu online/offline

The Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu ensures that the Indian citizens with above 18 years of age have the Voter ID card. The Voter Card has the details of the region, area and part that determine the constituency. It gives a person in Tamil Nadu to participate in the local and national elections. The Voter Card is also the proof of nationality and citizenship. A person can now simply apply for the Voter ID card through online and offline process. Online

Step 1

The applicant must visit the website of the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu for the registration and activation of the account. The website ceotamilnadu.nic.in is also used for the voter card application.

Step 2

Once the registration and the activation of the account is completed, the applicant must fill the form for the fresh application for the voter id card. The Form No 6 has to be filled out by the applicant. All the details in the form must be filled with minute details. It should be known to the applicant that wrong information may prompt the election commission reject the application.

Step 3

The Election Commission wants the applicants to submit the documents of proof for the registration and application process. The proof of birth, identity and the address has to be submitted. There are many documents that can be submitted to support the same. The website has specific lists of the documents that are required for the registration. Generally, Aadhar Card can be used for the same but there are other documents as well that can be submitted.

Step 4

Once submitted the system would generate the reference number for the applicant. The reference number is crucial for the applicant and he or she can check the status of the application online using the number.

Step 5

Voter Card is sent by the Election Commission of India to the registered address of the applicant. The entire process takes around one month of time tentatively.

Offline

Step 1

The user must find out the electoral office or branch near to the area of residence, The office should be visited by the applicant.

Step 2

The form for the fresh voter card applicant has to be filled by the applicant. The Form No 6 is also available in local language in the offline process. The applicant must ensure that the information provided is correct. The wrong information may reject the application.

Step 3

The application should be submitted along with the supporting documents for the initial verification purpose.

Step 4

Once verified and accepted, the applicant must receive a reference number. This number can be used to check the status of the application online.

Step 5

The total process takes around a month of time for verification and others. The Election Commission sends the voter card to the registered address.
